Shine On University, Day Services, Inc. Is designed to make the lives of individuals with cognitive, physical disabilities, and autism reach their goals and dreams.

Shine On University, Day Services has been in operation since January 2017. Shine On University started out with 6 students and 3 staff. Now serves nearly 50 students and 12 staff.

When Shine On University started the intent was to provide services to individuals residing in Tippecanoe County, but now we serve students from Tippecanoe and surrounding counties.

History

Tammy Frost, Founder and CEO Of Shine On University, had a vision in her head and a passion in her heart to open a Day Service for Handicap teens and adults after they graduate high school. As a special needs mom to her son Billy, and a case manager for other individuals, she wanted more to offer for these students. She had a vision for them to get out into the community, meet new people, and reach life goals as an adult. Tammy’s son was in High School, and she was looking into day services for him, she didn’t want just a “day care” or babysitter for him, she wanted him to still learn more as an adult. She found resources were very limited. Billy sadly passed away in 2015 only 1 week from his 19th Birthday so unfortunately, he never had the opportunity for a Day Service. Luckily Tammy still had her vision and passion to move forward. So, in September 2016 all necessary steps were taken to open Shine On. By January 2017 Shine On University was officially open. Tammy still has the passion today and Shine On University is growing each year!

Our Services

Adult services emphasize community programming which teaches individuals how to access services, products, and opportunities in the communities in which they live and visit.

Facility based programming is also offered to complement an individual’s comprehensive service plan. Individuals (students) attending SOU are served within a 4:1 ratio for both community and facility rehabilitative services. Students spend up to 50 percent of their time in the community working on social skills, volunteering, visiting businesses, working on pedestrian skills, and exploring all that their community has to offer. The other 50 percent of their day is spent at our facility based site, working on functional living skills, neurodevelopmental activities, and art programs designed by the students.
